Toyota Recall information and links for Arizona Toyota Owners.

This Toyota recall information page has been produced as Helpful information only. You will find information for gas pedal and accelerator issues, along with braking issues.

First off let me say do not panic! Toyota is a strong and reliable company, they will definitely handle any problems that may be present in your vehicle. The media along with downed american car company sales have a definite impact on the stories that you are hearing.

The 911 call out of California, as sad and unfortunate those loss of lives are, in the media carried the thought of Toyota gas pedals... Toyota this... and Toyota that, when in fact final investigation showed aftermarket all weather floor mats (the rubber kind that hold mud and snow etc.) was the cause of that accident, of course that was snuffed out of the spotlight.

Of the thousands of Toyota clients that we service, we have no actual reports of these issues present, ZERO!

I also want you to know that gas pedals have stuck for years on many different makes and models, floor mats have always crept beneath the accelerator pedals, that's why you see most modern vehicles equipped with a button or a clip on the drivers side floor mat.

I had an experience nearly 25 years ago where a Datsun 280zx gas pedal stuck to the floor on me while driving. I at first panicked, it was a scary feeling to let off the gas, only to find the vehicle accelerating, however after about a half second my reasoning and survival instinct kicked in, at which time I threw the vehicle into neutral and quickly turned the key off. Turned out to be  a floor mat holding the gas pedal down.

My point in telling you all of this is... that all should be prepared to handle this type of situation should it occur, and all in the family should know what steps should be done in case this was to happen.

Here is some basic information for your review.

In November Toyota addressed a problem with some vehicle in which the gas pedal gets stuck on removable floor mats.

First report, Toyota recalls 2.3 million vehicles for sticking accelerators. Stating that over time some vehicle's gas pedals become sticky. At first they just become a little harder to push down and, when you lift your foot off of the gas pedal, it is slower to come back up. In the worst case, the pedals of these cars can become stuck part way down.

Next the company recalled another 2.3 million vehicles for potentially sticking accelerators. This recall is separate from, but in addition to, the company's recall of 3.8 million vehicles last fall for issues that could result in sticking gas pedal.

Notably, this recall adds models not included in the original advisory, including the Highlander, RAV4, and Sequoia. No Lexus or Scion models are included with this recall. (There are approximately 1.7 million vehicles that are impacted by both recalls.)

Toyota Motor Sales Group Vice President Irv Miller has stated in a company release, "Our investigation indicates that there is a possibility that certain accelerator pedal mechanisms may, in rare instances, mechanically stick in a partially depressed position or return slowly to the idle position."

Toyota does not yet have a remedy to deploy, and further notification is expected.

Models involved in this new action include:

2005-2010 Avalon
2007-2010 Camry
2009-2010 Corolla
2010 Highlander
2009-2010 Matrix
2009-2010 RAV4
2008-2010 Sequoia
2007-2010 Tundra

The previous safety advisory/recall declared that "No defect exists in vehicles with properly installed floor mats."

We concluded that:
"Toyota has announced several steps it is taking to mitigate the risks of floor-mat entrapment and provide 'smart throttle‘technology (allowing the brake pedal to override the accelerator), but our analysis indicates other problems likely exist."
Read: "Analysis shows over 40 percent of sudden-acceleration complaints involve Toyota's."

This latest recall confirms that the unintended acceleration issues extend beyond floor mats.

Corrective measures previously announced for the original recalled models included modifying the accelerator pedals of certain Toyota Avalon, Camry, Prius, Tundra and Tacoma, and certain Lexus ES 350, IS 250, and IS 350 models to reduce the likelihood that they can become trapped under floor mats. Dealers will cut about 3/4 of an inch off the bottom of the gas pedals. Starting in April, replacement pedals will become available to all owners of these models, whether they have had the modification performed or not.

On the Avalon, Camry, and Lexus models, Toyota will also modify the engine software to include a brake override system that will cut the throttle if the brakes and throttle are applied simultaneously. The brake override system will be standard on all Toyota products for the 2011 model year.

What to do in case of accelerator pedal sticking:

While these cases are rare, unintended acceleration is a real problem that drivers need to know how to address. If your car begins to accelerate uncontrollably, immediately move the shift lever to neutral and firmly apply the brakes. Do not pump the brakes. And don't worry about the engine-modern vehicles have rev limiters to prevent damage. Once you have brought the car to a safe stop, turn off the engine.

Toyota Hybrid brake recall.

There have been only 200 reports worldwide of incidents with braking issues on these vehicles, however Toyota is proactive in handling any potential issues. The media is again hyping this issue up.

In Japan, Toyota will call back 223,068 vehicles to repair computers in anti-lock brake systems, according to a notice filed to Japan's Transport Ministry today. The vehicles to be repaired include 199,666 2010 Prius hybrids, 10,820 SAIs, 12,423 Lexus HS250h cars and 159 Prius plug-in hybrids, according to the filing to the ministry.
